The Road to the Final Four Fan Engagement

The NCAA came to us to help create a memorable and entertaining experience for the Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament Game Openers.

3D Projection Mapping

Traditional court projection mapping would not work as the attendees who had floor seats, including the parents and closest relatives to the student-athletes, were actually sitting below the raised court… so our team needed to design an innovative solution that would allow everyone a view of the opening experience.

We partnered with Tait Towers to build a four-sided, 30ft x 50ft automated scrim based system that lowered and raised from the center-hung display giving us another canvas to augment the court projection mapping.

This approach elevated the entire experience, engaging every single seat in the house and the activation looked sick from broadcast as well!!

Creating Immersive Content
on a Tight Timeline

The timeline for content production was more aggressive and challenging than most projects as the assets needed to build the game opener and player introductions for the Semi-Rounds were not available until six days before game day, and only twelve-hours before tip-off for The Championship Night Opener.

To maximize creativity we pre-animated a 3-D tool-kit of transitions, graphics, and visual-effects to help efficiently integrate the broadcast footage and assets from the NCAA needed to produce the content for the projection mapping experience.
